GSABJ Committees
Membership
A Membership Committee, which is
co-chaired by the vice presidents,
is responsible for soliciting and recruiting new members into GSABJ;
briefing new members on the working of the organization and designing and
initiating programs to sustain membership.
Education & Scholarship
The Education & Scholarship Committee is responsible for
screening African-American high school seniors each year as recipients of
GSABJ funds that will be used to pay a portion of the student's college
tuition.
Fundraising
The Fundraising Committee is to design and initiate programs and
events to raise money to support GSABJ and its activities.
Public Relations
The Public Relations Committee is responsible for promoting the image,
activities and mission of GSABJ through advertisements, news releases and
related medium.
Media-Monitoring
The Media-Monitoring Committee shall act as the organization's eyes and
ears, monitoring the coverage of minorities in the media outlets throughout
the state. It also investigates and responds to complaints of
discrimination and reviews the hiring practices of media outlets.
By-Laws
The By-Laws Committee shall be chaired by the Parliamentarian and
include three members appointed by the President. The committee shall
propose
needed changes in the by-laws, carefully examine prepared amendments and
circulate the above to the membership.
Nominating
The
Nominating Committee prepares a slate of officers by the October meeting.
This slate, as well as others nominated from the floor, will be voted on in
November.
Workshop
The
Workshop Committee plans and executes programs to the community and
membership. Programs to the community include Media Access and workshops in
journalism for students. Career enhancement, training and professional
growth programs are given for membership and members of the public who are
interested in the changes in the profession of journalism.
Awards Program
The
Awards Program Committee is responsible for planning the annual program
which honors achievements in journalism in the Garden State.
